Prelude Op. 2 No. 1 Aeolian Dance
Composer: Liam Pitcher
Aeolian Dance is so beautiful, it has soothing qualities of which I lean on in times of great stress. It is my comfort song. Aeolian Dance is centered around the aeolian mode (the sixth degree of a major scale).
This prelude was written while Liam was attending Hendrik Hofmeyr's composition class. For this particular assignment, everyone was asked to create seven modal aphorisms, one in each of the church modes. However, for this assignment, they were not permitted to use any chromatic notes. As a result, the original composition was "very plain" and after the assignment was concluded, Liam rewrote the piece.
